Director of Marketing

Saunak was born in Mumbai, but were you to ask him about India, he’d likely center on his fondness for the capital city of New Delhi with its myriad mix of culture, people and architecture. Although Saunak grew up away from home, a fascination with his father’s Rollieflex and AutoCAD renderings of gearboxes remained vivid. His mother’s intricate oil paintings and wardrobe of sari’s with heavy block prints also made lasting impressions. Needless to say, creativity runs in the family. Today, Saunak is an art director by profession, a photographer by hobby and a traveler by nature.

With over 8 years of experience, Saunak has worked for some of the leading players in the advertising industry ranging from large conglomerates (consumer electronics, retail and medical marketing) to academic institutions and non-profits. He currently works at Wunderman in New York City as senior art director. He has worked on prestigious accounts including Land Rover, Nokia, Samsung, Citibank, Virgin Mobile USA, Harley Davidson, New York University, Fujifilm USA, The Food Emporium, Denon DJ, and Meridian Health & CARE. Saunak is a versatile designer with a passion for effective, simple and original design solutions. Even though he enjoys working in the integrated digital and social spaces, Saunak was once the creative lead for Shaadi Style Magazine, a premier South Asian wedding & fashion magazine where he spent several years bringing the vision of the publication to life from concepting to art direction. He specializes in brand development, print collateral, corporate communications, editorial, identity and interactive design. His love for typography, interior design and photography influence they way he approaches every assignment.

At 16, Saunak was selected to participate in the exchange student program at the Lakefield College School in Toronto. He regards that experience as one of the most precious of his life. A few years later while at school, he had the opportunity to work with CARE (India) where he photographed their project sites as part of an awareness initiative around New Delhi and got a chance to meet children of families living below the poverty line. The common international poverty line has in the past been roughly $1 a day. Today, in New York City, his desire to make a difference in the world continues, inspiring him to seek out opportunities to help shape a brighter future.

Saunak has spent the last two years spearheading the marketing initiatives at the American India Foundation (AIF NYYP). This New York City based non-profit organization’s mission is to accelerate social and economic change in India with focuses on livelihood, education and public health. As AIF NYYP’s board member and marketing lead, Saunak continues to reach out to broader audiences in the course of increasing AIF’s fan-base, fund-raising, and achieving the humanitarian goals of the organization. With the collective effort and teamwork of its board members, the AIF New York Young Professionals Chapter has successfully raised over $200,000 in the past two years.

The only thing more satisfying and motivating for Saunak than a technologically and creatively oriented career is the lure of adventure through travel. His next Himalayan expedition is high on the list of future itineraries. Climbing trips might best exemplify his desire to strive for the best, take on the most challenging obstacles, and to never give up. These trips reward him spiritually and also literally, as when he received several ‘Duke of Edinburg Awards for young people’ in recognition of these summit expeditions. Organizing and fund-raising for groups of less-fortunate young adventure seekers to conquer similar challenges is yet another of Saunak’s goals.

Saunak has an advanced diploma in Advertising and Graphic Design from Wigan & Leigh College, U.K. He graduated from The Art Institute of Boston, where he majored in Graphic Design. His formal education continues with classes at the International Center of Photography in New York City.
